Vintage 1950s Read Smock Gathering Machine with Instructions for Smocking

This is a vintage 1950s Read smock gathering machine with 16 needles. It comes with three instructional sheets - see photos. It appears to be in very good condition with no noted wear except that two of the needles are broken - replacement needles are fairly easy to find. The Read machines were Made in South Africa and imported by H Peuler. One of the sheets has a printers date code of 11/56, so the machine probably dates to 1956-57. It measures 4 1/4 by 8 1/4 with a height of 3 1/2.
