Vintage 1940s Mens Suit Black Wool Custom Tailored France M

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a beautifully tailored vintage 1940s mens suit made in France.  This vintage 1940s mens suit is made of a quality black wool.  The shoulders of the jacket are padded, consistent with 1940s styling, and the jacket is made with high gorge peaked lapels that are medium width.  It has a four button double breasted front and closes with only one of the buttons.  There is a jetted pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest.  The jacket is fully lined in black satin fabric with quilting at the armpit/shoulder area.  The pants to this vintage 1940s mens suit are pleated and have a three button fly.  There are buttons for suspenders and the legs are fairly wide at the upper and taper down to the turned cuffs.

Labels: LB Vêtement monté sur Poil de Chameau (Garment mounted on Camel Hair) The Best Taylor.  The neck loop and pocket have labels that read “Cousu à la soie naturelle” (sewn with natural silk}.

Age:  most likely 1940s due to the higher gorge and shorter jacket length.  WWII caused material shortages, so jacket gorges were higher, jackets were shorter than during the 1930s or 1950s and flaps were eliminated from pockets.
