Vintage 1940s Day Dress Floral Printed Pink Silk Chiffon Size M

This is a 1940s floral printed pink silk chiffon fabric day dress.  The dress has shoulder pads, mid-forearm length sleeves, an inverted V defined waistline and a bodice decorated with 21 matching covered buttons.  It has a V shaped sweetheart neckline and the shoulders are gathered in pleats as is the skirt, so that it falls in drapes.  It is made in a below the knee length.  it is unlined and does up at the side with a fine tooth metal zipper. 

Age: 1940s 

Label: None, but most likely manufacturer made - a homemade dress wouldn’t have covered buttons and the attention to detail that this dress has.

Color:  Pink with green, white and black pattern

Material: Most likely silk in a light semi-transparent weight - rayon was popular during this period, but this is lighter than I would expect from rayon.  In any case, lovely quality 40s era fabric. 

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit, taking into account the style of the dress:

Shoulders:  16 3/4” across from one shoulder/sleeve seam to the other shoulder/sleeve seam 

Sleeves:  17 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Bust:  36” around, but should fit loosely

Waist:  31” around

Hips:  40” around, meant to fall loosely in drapes

Length:  42” measured flat

Condition:  It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or odour, but there are two light brown stains near the hemline that I have not tried to remove as they are fairly insignificant.  Otherwise, this dress looks to have seen little use and has been well cared for over the years.

This is a wonderful 1940s era dress…hard to find these 40s sheer prints……
