This is a vintage mens tuxedo tailcoat / formal tails, made by Montreal tailor Frank Reda. The tails are dated to 1939 on the tailor’s label. The tailcoat is made in classic form with padded shoulders, no closure, cut away front with six buttons, two buttons at the back and four buttons at either cuff, all of the buttons being covered with woven silk (see close-up photo). The lapels are wide and peaked upward and finished in black silk grosgrain (matte linear pattern). The fabric is a very fine herringbone wool, super quality. It is fully lined in black silk satin. Note that there are no pants included, only the tailcoat.
Sizing: There is no size label, and although this should fit a small size (US 36), please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):
Shoulders: 19” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24 1/2” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16 1/2” long
Chest: 38” around, taken under the arms with a normal gap
Waist: 36” around
Overall length: 42“ at the back, measured flat
Condition: This tailcoat suit is in very good condition with the exception of a pinhead sized hole to the back, mid-way down (see last 2 close-up photos, the last next to a dime for scale). I’m pricing this at a level that you can have this invisibly mended if desired. Otherwise, this tailcoat looks like it saw little use, and was very kept over the years.
This is a nice tailcoat - beautifully tailored, super quality, classic style!
