This is a quality vintage mens tuxedo tailcoat / formal tails, dated on the tailor’s label to 1933. The tailcoat was made by London tailor Timewell & Hooper, located at number 8 Sackville St., just down the street from Savile Row. The tailcoat is made with sharkskin finished silk peaked lapels. It has padded shoulders, pocket at the chest, no closure, cut away front with four buttons and three buttons at either cuff. The buttons are covered in a checkerboard patterned silk. It is fully lined in black silk satin with quilting in the armpit areas for added durability. Note that there are no pants included, only the tailcoat.
Sizing: As this is custom tailored, there is no size label, and although this should fit a medium size (US 38-40), please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):
Jacket:
Shoulders: 18” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 25 1/2” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 18” long
Chest: 40” around, taken under the arms with a normal gap
Waist: 38” around
Overall length: 43“ at the back, measured flat
Condition: This tailcoat suit is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odours, but the lining is detached on the left side, so should be re-sewn, an easy task for a tailor (see last close-up photo). Otherwise, this looks like it saw very little use, and was very well kept over the years.
This is a wonderful example of British tailoring - difficult to find nice examples of men’s formal wear like this!
