Vintage 1930s Tuxedo Jacket Double Breasted Wool AS IS

Vintage 1930s Tuxedo Jacket Double Breasted Wool AS IS

$65.00

This is a vintage 1930s tuxedo jacket by Style Club Clothes, made in Canada, probably during the late 1930s or possibly early 40s. The jacket is tailored in a double-breasted fitted style with broad, sharply peaked lapels faced in silk or silk-blend grosgrain, which has discoloured to a purplish tone due to age. The styling is characteristic of the late 1930s, featuring structured padded shoulders, a fitted waist, and no rear vent.

The interior is fully lined in a black shadow-striped rayon, and the tailoring is canvassed and well-constructed, suggesting this was a semi-bespoke or made-to-measure garment. The inner label reads “Style Club Clothes – For Men Who Care” with the brand’s top-hatted gentleman logo.  The tailor’s label identifies the original owner as Mr. Beaucage, dated Nov. 3 with order number 5158, suggesting a custom commission.

Material: Wool exterior, silk or silk-blend grosgrain lapel facings, rayon lining
Colour: Black (lapels show purplish tone from oxidation)
Label: Style Club Clothes – “For Men Who Care”
Date: Circa 1938–1941

Sizing:  Being custom tailored, there is no size label, and although this should fit a medium size (with a small waist US size 38), please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 19" seam to seam

Sleeves: 23 1/2“ long

Sleeve inseam: 19"

Chest: 42" around (underarms)

Waist: 33" around

Overall length: 30 1/2" (from back neck seam to hem)

Condition: Lapel facings are discoloured and have been badly pressed, creating sheen variation; otherwise the body of the jacket is in very good shape.  You would have re-face the lapels for the jacket to be used for a formal event - otherwise, the jacket is great as a study piece or for costume use.

Despite the problem lapel facings, this vintage 1930s tuxedo jacket is beautifully tailored…sold “as is”….
