This is a simple, but beautifully made early 1930s era silk hat in a skull cap style. The hat has a cream silk top lining that is woven with “Beauforte” and the manufacturer’s logo, which looks somewhat like “GD”. The skull cap style of hat was popularized by Greta Garbo in the 1931 movie “Mata Hari”, soon becoming a style copied by many milliners. The hat features decorative stitching on the exterior and is lined in black silk. It is in very good condition except for the black lining having come unstitched over a 4” length - it doesn’t absolutely need to be re-stitched, but probably should be to avoid further unstitching. It measures 21” around the opening - it is supposed to sit on the head, but should fit a small size. This is a wonderful period hat, perfect early 30s look....
