This is a vintage mens tuxedo tailcoat / formal tails that dates most likely to the 1930s or 40s. The tailcoat is made in classic form with padded shoulders, no closure, cut away front with six buttons, two buttons at the back and three buttons at either cuff. The lapels are wide and peaked and finished in black silk satin. It is fully lined in black satin. Note that there are no pants included, only the tailcoat.
Label: Goodman’s Hatter and Men’s Wear Montreal
Sizing: The size label reads 36, and although this should fit a small size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):
Shoulders: 19” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24” from shoulder seam - it is possible that the sleeves have been shortened by the way that the cuff is finished
Sleeve Inseam: 17” long
Chest: 40” around, taken under the arms with a normal gap
Waist: 38” around with a normal gap
Overall length: 45“ at the back, measured flat
Condition: This tailcoat is in very good condition with the exception of a small tear to the back of the lower right sleeve, about 1/8” (see last close-up photo), fairly insignificant and could be invisibly mended. Otherwise, the tails look like they saw little use, and was very kept over the years.
This is a nice tailcoat - sold at a very reasonable price given the small tear…..
