Vintage 1910s 20s Mens Dressing Gown Brown Velvet Size M

This is a rare mens Edwardian or post-Edwardian era dressing gown / lounging robe made of brown velvet.  It came with a lot of clothing that dated between 1900 and 1930, so would date somewhere in that range, but my opinion is that this dressing gown dates to the early 20s or late 1910s.  It has two ornate roped frog closures as well as a roped sash with tassels.  The dressing gown has a shawl collar, side pockets and slanted chest pocket.  It is fully lined in a silk twill fabric.  It is all hand sewn (see close-up photos of seams) 

Label:  None - this would have been custom made by a tailor

Fabric:  Velvet, probably a cotton velvet, but exceptional quality, very soft

Sizing: Although this dressing gown should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 20” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 23 1/2” long

Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2”

Chest: 43” around, taken under the arms, 21 1/2” pit-to-pit

Waist: 41”, meant to be cinched with sash belt

Overall length: 50"

Condition:  This dressing gown, including the other clothing, were kept in mothballs over the last 100 or so years.  I aired the dressing gown, as well as the other garments, for about 3 weeks and the odour appears to be gone, however, I do wrap items in plastic for shipping and that can sometimes reactivate odours.  You would just need to air it again, or have the item dry cleaned, but use only by a dry cleaner that can be trusted with antique garments.  There is a seam opening at the right sleeve near the armpit (see close-up photo), easily sewn, and a slight bit of velvet matting to the sleeves at the elbow areas, very minor.  Otherwise, it is in lovely condition.  Really, this is a very well preserved example, and very rare - you don’t see dressing gowns of this type and age, especially ones that have been so well cared for.  

This is a fabulous dressing gown - unstated, excellent quality, very classy!
