From the early 70s here's an old school, rhythm and blues style mens tuxedo jacket made in a quality black mohair fabric with wide lapels that are made of black satin with a floral pattern woven into it. The jacket was bought at Kosins of Detroit probably during the early 1970s. Kosins was a high end men’s clothing retailer, the go to place for Detroit’s elite, and Kosins created custom made clothing for special clients, including the Four Tops and most likely other Motown artists. This jacket looks like something that Barry White or some other early 70s R&B singer would have worn. The jacket closes with a two button closure at the front. It has a 10 1/2” single kick pleat/vent at the back. There is a woven satin trimmed pocket at either side and at the right breast. The cuffs are also trimmed in woven satin and are trimmed with a single button. The interior is fully lined in black satin striped fabric and has two pockets built into the lining.Label: Styled for Kosins Clothes Detroit
Tailor’s label: Lord West by West Mill Clo. Ltd.Union label: ACWU - Amalgated Clothing Workers Union label that was used between 1962 and 1976
Color: Black - the color is lightened a little in the photos in order to better view the detail of the jacket
Material: Mohair and satin
Sizing: No size is indicated, but it should fit an extra large size, probably a US size 48 - please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 20” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 26” long
Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2
Chest: 52” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 50” around
Overall length: 32"
It's in very good condition, very clean with no wear, tear or staining - the only defect is a tiny bit of wear to the edge of the buttonhole that shows white. All that this would require is a few black stitches to seal and camouflage the wear.
This is a great 1970s era tuxedo jacket - perfect Detroit R&B look from a quality mens' clothier.
