Label: Jean Muir Paris
Retailer's Label: Hilde Originals Montreal
Material: Silk Jersey
Description: This wonderful dress features cape-like sleeves and pleating across the centre of the bodice. The waist is emphasized by a band that fastens with two buttons at the back. The skirt has pleating at the sides and back. Fastens up the back with a zipper; the original zipper was metal, but damaged, so I've had it replaced with a nylon zipper. It also closes at the back of the neck with two buttons. The fabric of the dress has good weight and falls beautifully.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but it is a medium size - please note what measurements that I can provide, given the unique cut to this dress:
- Bust: 36" around, approximate - difficult to ascertain due to the cape sleeves
- Waist: 28" around
- Hips: 36" around
- Length: 43"
- Very good condition
- Exception of four pinholes on the front right sleeve near the edge, where there had been a staple (see last close-up photo). These are pretty small, but it might be a good idea to have them invisibly mended by a tailor. Otherwise, this dress is in very good condition.
About the Designer: Jean Muir is considered one of Britain's greatest fashion designers. She studied fashion sketching at St Martin's School of Art while working at Liberty, and went on to work at Jacqmar and then Jaeger. After designing for the Jane & Jane label for four years, she started a label under her own name in 1966 (bio gleaned from the Vintage Fashion Guild).
