Blue Aurora Borealis Rhinestone Necklace 1950s with Earrings
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a 1950s vintage rhinestone necklace and earrings made with blue aurora rhinestone. The clips on the earrings are signed Continental, but the necklace is unsigned.
This set dates either to the 1950s and it is made with bluish/purplish toned aurora borealis rhinestones, round and navette shaped. The stones are usually probably less purple than shown in the photos - because they are aurora borealis stones, the color being reflected depends in part on lighting conditions.
The necklace measures 15" in length to the last loop, laid out straight - there's an extra segment dangling from the last loop, why I'm not sure. The earrings measure 1 1/8` in height. The set is in very good condition. It comes in a vintage box that is marked "Francine - Jewelry to Treasure".
Continental Jewellery was founded in 1943 and was based in Montreal. They were the principal competition to Sherman, which was also based in Montreal. Although they were more modestly priced compared to Sherman, their quality was still excellent, although, in general, their pieces contained fewer stones. Because of their competitive pricing, they grew to be the largest Canadian suppliers of rhinestone jewelry during the 1950s.
This is a nice quality set...very pretty color and sparkle...
