Antique Skull & Crossbones Pectoral Crucifix Monk Nun Priest Cross

This is an antique crucifix that most likely belonged to either a Catholic priest, monk or nun. It measures 3 7/8 in height and features a skull and crossbones underneath the feet of Jesus. This is meant to represent the bones of the original Adam and Golgotha, the place where Jesus was crucified, which means Skull Hill. It has a loop at the top which enables the cross to be hung around the neck or from a belt around the waist. It is fairly heavy for its size and does not attract a magnet so I believe that it is made of silver plated brass and is inlaid with ebony wood. It is in very good condition with only slight wear to the plating, visible in the close-up photos but not under normal viewing. Difficult to date precisely, but most likely late 19th century to early 20th century.
This is a nice example.a little large but could be worn on a chain around the neck - wonderful acquisition!
