This is a fabulous chocolate box that originally contained chocolate made by the Ganong Bros of St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Ganong is Canada’s oldest candy company, having been found by James and Gilbert Ganong in 1873. This box features a semi-embossed image of a woman, surrounded by embossed flowers in the art nouveau style. The image is framed with a raised oval gold band. The rest of the box is printed with purple blue flowers that I think are “forget me nots”. The box of the box is printed in black script text with “Ganong Bros. Limited St. Stephen N.B.”. The box dates to the turn of the century, circa 1900. The box measures 9 5/8” by 10 3/4” by 2”. It is in very good condition with the exception of some moisture staining along one edge of the bottom and seam splits at the four corners of the lid. In addition, the two ribbons that would hold the cover in a standing position are detached, but this is minor. The interior is quite clean. This is an exceptional chocolate box - nice piece of Canadian candy history and a beautiful display piece!
