Antique Chromolithograph Portrait of a Young Woman Print

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is an antique chromolithograph portrait of a young woman, beautifully rendered in soft tones - very attractive. The subject is depicted with auburn curls, a pink ribbon in her hair, and a delicate white gown, holding a pale pink rose. The print captures the romantic style of late 19th to early 20th century decorative portraiture, when chromolithography was widely used for art intended to adorn middle-class homes.
The image shows the pattern typical of chromolithographic printing, a difficult process that required individual colours to be printed one at a time. Because of the multiple passes through the press and the tendency of paper to stretch, registration was often lost, resulting in a high amount of wastage, which made chromolithographs relatively expensive.
This antique chromolithograph is framed under glass.
Measurements:
Frame: 20 1/2" high x 16 1/2" wide
Visible image: 17 5/8" high x 13 5/8" wide
Condition: This antique chromolithograph is in very good condition. Upon close inspection, the chromolithograph surface shows some speckling on her forehead that I think is original to the printing - very minor in any case. The backing paper looks to be more recent, so I’m unsure if the frame is original but the print appears to have been re-framed - still, it compliments the print well. This antique chromolithograph is wired and ready to hang.
This is a lovely decorative antique chromolithograph - really a lovely image that would look great in a Victorian or Edwardian decor…
