This is a very nice quality 1970s vintage brown velvet coat made in Canada by Sport Togs under the “Lou Ritchie” brand name. Lou Ritchie was a Canadian designer, who also designed for the Rainmaster brand. The fabric is of a medium weight and the coat is fully lined in copper brown satin. This vintage brown velvet coat does up with four buttons within an eight button double breasted configuration. The coat has a wide squared lapel and also has a wide, pointy collar. The back of this velvet maxi coat has a decorative belt at the waist that is accented with two gold toned buttons. There is a flapped pocket built into either side. This vintage brown velvet coat is cut to fall in drapes.
Label: Lou Ritchie of Montreal Made in Canada. The ILGWU union label was in use from 1968 until 1984, but this coat probably dates to the mid-70s.
Sizing: No size is indicated on this vintage brown velvet coat, and although it should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements, taken from the exterior, for fit - please take the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account:
Shoulders: 16 1/2” across shoulder/sleeve seams
Sleeves: 23” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 16”
Bust: 40” around
Length: 44”, measured flat
Condition: This vintage brown velvet coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear or stains - there is bit of matting to the back of the right sleeve, but this is very minor. Otherwise, this velvet coat looks like it saw very moderate use and was well cared for and stored over the years.
