This is a superior quality (Qualita Superiore) early 1970s mens hat made in a fedora style by Borsalino of Italy. The color is a very attractive medium brown.  This hat dates to somewhere between 1972 and 1978 as it was sold at “Simpsons”, a Montreal based department store. Simpsons was in business from 1858 until 1978, when it was bought by the Hudson’s Bay Company.  It had been known as the Robert Simpson Co., then as Simpson’s, but dropped the apostrophe in 1972 (as stamped on this hat) due to pressure in Quebec to increase francization of services.   The hat is gold stamped on the upper interior with “Qualita Superiore Borsalino Alessandria 1857 Italia Marca Depositata Made in Italy” and has the retailer’s name “Simpsons” appearing below.  The leather sweatband is also gold stamped “Boraslino Grand Prix Paris 1900 Antica Casa Fondata Del 1857 Made in Italy”.  The cloth label states a US size 7.  It measures 21 1/2” around the sweatband and 7 7/8” by 6 1/8” across the opening.  The brim measures 3 1/8” in width and the crown has a height of 4 1/2”.  It is in very good condition, the thin whipcord which goes around the grosgrain ribbon band, is disintegrating,  other than this there is no wear, tear or signs of much use.  This is a super quality hat by Borsalino, nice color, easy to wear style.
