This is a 1960s vintage white leather handbag made in Canada by Mastercraft Leather Goods. Mastercraft was co-founded during the 1950s by Henry Fenster, a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to Montreal in 1952. Fenster was a skilled designer and is known for the Apollo 11 Command and Service Module shaped purse, which he donated to the Apollo 11 astronauts’ wives and is now exhibited in the Smithsonian. This vintage white leather handbag has a leather exterior and a brown suede interior. It has gold toned hardware and a leather strap top handle. The centre compartment is recessed within an elevated panel to either side - there is a compartment on either side of the main centre compartment. It has a clasp closure and there is a flapped compartment built onto the front of the purse that closes with a snap. The purse measures 10” wide by 6” high, exclusive of any extended panels and its handle, and has with a bottom depth of about 4”. This vintage white leather handbag is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny pinhead brown dot on the top of the handle. In addition, there is the slight scent of cigarettes to the interior - this simply needs an airing or to be stuffed with odour absorbent material.
With all of the pockets and compartments, there is a lot of storage room in this vintage white leather handbag - it is very well designed for functionality. This is a very nice quality vintage white leather handbag - I’ve had other Mastercraft purses in the past and they were all very well made…..classic, wonderful handbag!
