Label: A Hardy Amies Design Tailored by Hepworths. Hardy Amies (1909-2003), of course, is a legendary British designer. He started designing in 1937, but was recruited into British Intelligence during WWII. After WWII, he established his business on Savile Row producing bespoke suits. In 1959, he became one of the first European designers to produce ready-to-wear by entering into an agreement to design for Hepworths. He is noted for having designed the wardrobe for Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" and for his long association with Queen Elizabeth II, for whom he designed several gowns for notable occasions from 1950 until his death. He was knighted in 1989.

Hepworths is a Leeds based clothing manufacturer that was established in 1865. By 1907, they were the largest producer of clothing in Britain. They continued to produce under the Hepworths name until 1980, when they ceased manufacturing, but continued to run retail operations under the "Next" banner.

Material: Wool with 35% Terylene, which was a brand name for polyester

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size, probably size 38 to 40 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the wool into consideration):

Jacket:

Shoulders: 19" across shoulder seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 25" from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17" long

Chest: 44" around, taken under the arms

Waist: 42"

Overall length: 29 1/2"

Pants:

Waist: 36", can be sized down to 34" with waist adjustors that are on the sides

Leg Inseam: 31" long

Overall length: 42 1/2"

Condition: This suit is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors - the only "defect" is a missing button on one of the back pockets on the pants, easily replaced. Otherwise, this suit looks like it saw little, if any, use and was very well kept over the years.

Great 1960s fashion - although ready-to-wear, this is an excellent quality suit designed by renowned British designer.
