1950s Wide Brim Hat by Simpsons - Black Straw

This is a wonderful hat with a wide brim made of woven black straw. The construction of the straw is fairly thick. The hat has a round crown that is decorated with a very narrow pink velvet ribbon around the front of the crown. The brim at the front is wide while it is narrow at the back. The brim at the front measures 5 1/2" in width. The interior of the hat has a black band that measures 20 1/2" around, but the hat is meant to sit on top of the head, so probably would fit a small to medium sized head.
It measures 16 1/2" across from back to front and 16 inches across from side to side.
Label: Simpson's - this was a Canadian Department Store founded by Robert Simpson in 1858. It was purchased by the Hudson's Bay Co. chain in 1978, and it finally closed its doors in the 1990s.
The hat is in very good condition with no wear, tear or staining. What I can see is that the ribbon must have been more attached to the hat in some fashion as there are some thread remnants on the pink ribbon and also a couple of tiny black markings on the ribbon. Other than this hat has been well cared for over the years.
This is a very attractive hat - excellent quality straw.
