This is a beautiful quality 1940s Borsalino black wide brimmed fedora hat featuring a thin ribbon around the crown. This hat was owned by a special envoy to the Vatican, who resided there from 1940 until 1950. He would have bought this hat during the 1940s while a resident there. He passed away in 1953, so this hat certainly dates to the 1940s. The hat has a label on the upper interior that reads “Borsalino Antica Caesar Qualita Speciale” and has the retailer’s name “Fratelli Vigano Via Marco Minghetti 6-7-8 Succ. Via Cavour 75 Roma”. The leather sweatband is also gold stamped “Boraslino Grand Prix Paris 1900 Antica Casa Fondata Del 1857” and with the retailer’s name . The cloth label states “5 1/2” which is equivalent to a US size 7 1/4. It measures 22 1/4” around the sweatband and 7 7/8” by 6 1/2” across the opening. The brim measures 3 1/8” in width and the crown has a height of 4 1/2”. It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or signs of much use - the label on the top interior is curling at the lower edges, but this can be easily fixed. In addition, the cord around the crown is missing its button, but this could be easily replaced. This is a super quality hat by Borsalino, rare to find 1940s examples like this in such good condition.......
