This is an exceptional quality silk satin peignoir with lace insetting down the entire front center, at the end of the sleeves and at the neckline of the back. I believe that it was part of a wedding trousseau.  It closes with a metal zipper down the front and has three violet colored velvet bows down the front of the bodice to the waistline. The peignoir is made with puffed elbow length sleeves and has a pleated train at the back of skirt. The waistline is V shaped both at the front and back. The shoulders have small pads at the shoulder seams that go slightly under the sleeve caps.

Age: late 1930s / 1940s

Makers Label: No label except for a cloth tag that reads "1690M"

Color: Pink and white. The pink is in a warmer tone, usually described as salmon or peach

Fabric: Silk satin. The fabric is fairly thick and falls beautifully.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a range of medium sizes - please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 13" across shoulder seam-to-seam, but your shoulder cap should fit into the sleeve cap.

Sleeves: 15" long

Sleeve Inseam: 4 1/2"

Bust: 38" around (meant to be slightly loose)

Waist: 29"

Hips: 50", but meant to fall in pleats

Length: 56" at the front / 63" long at the back to the end of the train

Condition:  The peignoir is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors - the only defect that I can find is a small line that looks like an ink mark, but could be something else, located at the left shoulder. This mark is very minor and barely noticeable. Otherwise, this peignoir looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a wonderful quality peignoir, very glamourous from a very glamourous period. It was acquired at a high end, wealthy estate, from a woman who was 106 years old, so it probably had been part of her wedding trousseau. It is quite the exceptional piece....you can't buy quality like this today.....absolutely beautiful.
