1930s Nightgown & Peignoir Silk Chiffon Lingerie Set Cornflower Blue Medium
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is an exceptional quality 1930s silk chiffon peignoir with matching nightgown / nightie made in a gorgeous cornflower blue color with net trim. The peignoir is made with puffed elbow length sleeves and has pleating at either side of the bodice. The skirt is gathered at the waistline to create a full skirt and a train at the back of the skirt. It does up with 13 matching covered buttons down the front. The nightie has a lot of lace netting at the bodice and a low cut back. There are no other openings than the top, so the piece simply fits over the head. The chiffon renders it semi-transparent - it is quite the daring piece!
Makers Label: No label
Color: Cornflower blue
Fabric: Silk chiffon and lace
No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size - please note the following measurements for fit, taking into account the style of the nightie:
Shoulders: 15 1/2" across shoulder seam-to-seam, but shoulder cap should fit into the sleeve cap.
Sleeves: 14" long
Bust: 36" around (meant to be slightly loose)
Hips: 44", but meant to fall in pleats
Length: 54" at the front / 64" long at the back to the end of the train
The set is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors, except for one pinhead sized hole on the lace net trim on the nightie, very minor - otherwise, this peignoir set looks like it saw very little use and was well stored over the years. In fact, the buttons on the peignoir are difficult to close because the loops are not stretched out from, that is why I only buttoned the top and bottom buttons for the photos.
This is an exceptional quality peignoir, very glamourous from a very glamourous period. It was acquired at a high end, wealthy estate, from a woman who was 106 years old, so it may have been part of her wedding trousseau. It is quite the stunning piece in a rarely seen color....you can't buy quality like this today.....absolutely beautiful.....
