20s Folk Art Quilt Redwork Hand-Stitched Embroidered Cotton

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This product is unavailable

From the 1920s or late teens is this vintage hand-stitched redwork quilt features 54 alternating embroidered squares.  The kewpie doll was first out in 1913 and with the kewpie and the flags and the cannon, this would have some reference to WWI. The piece is embroidered with different animals, Kewpie doll characters, Sunbonnet girls doing different chores on different days, children, British and French flags, cannon, a church, animals. The quilt measures 65" by 68" and is in very good condition - there is some wear to the outer edges of the cotton and some of the hand-stitching has come undone here and there. No visible stains. It could do with a wash as there is some yellowing, I will leave that up to the buyer.

It weighs 2 lbs and 4 oz.

Wonderful piece of folk art - great quilt to add to a collection!
