Vintage WWII RCAF Sweetheart Handkerchief Royal Canadian Air Force Patriotic Hankie Excellent
This vintage handkerchief dates to the Second World War (circa 1940–1945) and features a striking patriotic design celebrating the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Printed in the national colours of red, white, and blue, the centre displays the wartime RCAF winged badge with the King's Crown and laurel wreath, while red maple leaves enclosed within RCAF roundels decorate the upper and lower corners.
During the Second World War, handkerchiefs such as this were popular patriotic keepsakes and are commonly referred to today as sweetheart handkerchiefs. They were purchased by servicemen, girlfriends, wives, and family members as mementos of military service and remain highly collectible pieces of Canadian wartime history.
The handkerchief appears to be made from a fine cotton lawn, a lightweight, semi-transparent fabric commonly used for quality printed souvenir handkerchiefs of the period. The crisp screen-printed design remains bright and attractive, making it equally suitable for display, collecting, or incorporation into a military textile collection.
