Vintage Lacoste Men's Black Wool Pea Coat Double Breasted Nautical Jacket c. 2000

This is a vintage men's black wool pea coat by Lacoste, dating to the late 1990s or early 2000s, featuring a classic double-breasted design inspired by traditional naval outerwear.

The coat has a straight, tailored silhouette with structured shoulders, a broad notched collar and wide lapels. The double-breasted front fastens with three buttons, with a matching row of three decorative buttons on the opposite side. The black buttons feature a distinctive nautical design incorporating crossed signal flags and the Lacoste name.

Two horizontal welt pockets are positioned at hip level, while the long sleeves have plain cuffs. The back is simply tailored with a centre seam and no vent. At 33 inches in length, the coat is somewhat longer than a traditional naval pea coat, providing additional coverage while retaining the characteristic double-breasted styling.

The outer fabric is a substantial, densely woven blend of 80% wool and 20% polyamide, with a smooth, slightly brushed surface. The coat is fully lined in black fabric, composed of 50% viscose and 50% polyester.

The original Lacoste label features the embroidered crocodile emblem. The manufacturer's label states Designed in France, Made in Bulgaria, and includes both Canadian CA and American RN textile identification numbers associated with Devanlay, Lacoste's longtime clothing manufacturer and distributor. Devanlay Canada Inc. handled the distribution of Lacoste clothing in Canada, indicating that this coat was labelled for the North American market.

The coat is labelled size 46, although its actual measurements suggest that it would best accommodate a modern North American men's size 40, depending on the desired fit and clothing worn underneath.

Please note that the buttonholes are on the wearer's right side, so the coat fastens in the direction traditionally associated with women's clothing. However, the long sleeves and straight, relatively boxy cut are consistent with men's tailoring. The coat may be suitable for either men or women, depending on measurements and preferred fit.
