Vintage Jean Cartier Céramiques de Beauce Vase C-3054 Green and Black Glaze

Vintage Jean Cartier Céramiques de Beauce Vase C-3054 Green and Black Glaze

$150.00

Designed by celebrated Québécois ceramic artist Jean Cartier for Céramiques de Beauce around 1972, this model C-3054 is an attractive example of Canadian modernist pottery. Jean Cartier's work from this period is represented in the collections of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and his Beauce designs are among the company's most collectible creations.

What immediately sets this vase apart is its uncommon colourway. While the C-3054 model is known in a variety of decorative finishes, this vivid apple-green glaze beneath a glossy black rim is one I have been unable to find documented elsewhere, making it a desirable example for collectors of Beauce pottery.

The vase has a clean, architectural silhouette typical of Jean Cartier's early-1970s designs, with gently tapering sides, a rounded shoulder and substantial rolled rim. The glossy glaze gives the piece depth, while the contrast between the luminous green body and black neck creates a Mid-Century Modern aesthetic that displays well today in modern decors.

The underside bears the raised Jean Cartier signature together with the impressed marks Canada, the Beauce cb logo and C-3054.

Measurements

  • Height: 12½ inches
  • Diameter: approximately 5 inches

Condition

In very good condition. There are no chips, cracks or noticeable surface wear not original to the manufacture. The only condition note is age-related crazing to the glaze on the underside, typical of many Beauce ceramics and not visible when displayed.

This is a very attractive vase - excellent either as an addition to a collection or as an addition to a collection!
