Vintage Harper's Bazaar January 1993 Kate Moss Peter Lindbergh Versace

This is the January 1993 issue of Harper's Bazaar, an especially appealing early issue from the influential Liz Tilberis era of the magazine.

The striking cover features Meghan Douglas, Kate Moss and Patricia Hartmann, photographed by Peter Lindbergh, wearing an exuberant mixture of stripes, polka dots and florals by Gianni Versace. The magazine described the look as 1970s-inspired fashion that was “pure ’90s.”

Published during the first months of Liz Tilberis's tenure as editor-in-chief, the issue belongs to an important period in the modern history of Harper's Bazaar. Tilberis, working with creative director Fabien Baron, introduced the clean, sophisticated visual style that became closely associated with the magazine during the 1990s. Kate Moss had made her American fashion-magazine debut in Tilberis's first Bazaar issue in September 1992 and quickly became one of the magazine's defining models.
