Vintage 1966 Robert Castling Winnipeg Mohair Tuxedo Dinner Jacket Shawl Collar
This vintage tuxedo dinner jacket was custom tailored in December 1966, as confirmed by its original tailor's fitting label, manufactured by Freedman clothes of Montreal and retailed by Robert Castling of Winnipeg, a Canadian men's clothier specializing in fine traditional clothing. With its 60s styling and quality construction, it is a very nice example of mid-century formalwear that remains as wearable today as when it was first made.
Tailored from a fine suiting fabric containing mohair, the jacket has the crisp hand, drape and lustre that made mohair blends the preferred choice for quality evening wear. The classic single-button design features satin-edged shawl lapels, satin-trimmed jetted pockets, a welt breast pocket, single button split cuffs, a half lined interior and a centre back vent. The long, clean silhouette and proportions reflect the tailoring of the mid-1960s before the more exaggerated styles of the following decade.
The original interior fitting label records the customer's name together with the date December 14, 1966.
Whether worn for black-tie events, weddings, stage performance or simply appreciated as an example of classic Canadian tailoring, this is a classic dinner jacket that can be paired with pants of your choice.
