Vintage 1960s Wade Irish Porcelain Vase Mid Century Modern Green Drip Glaze Art Pottery
This is a vintage Wade Irish Porcelain vase dating from approximately the 1960s, featuring a beautifully sculptural form enhanced by flowing shades of olive green, moss green, blue-green, and smoky grey glaze.
The vase displays a graceful hourglass silhouette accented by moulded fluted bands near the rim and base. The rich, flowing glaze creates subtle variations in colour from every angle, giving the piece a sophisticated organic quality associated with Scandinavian Modern and Mid Century Modern ceramic design.
Produced by Wade's Irish pottery operation and bearing the blue shamrock Irish Porcelain – Made in Ireland backstamp, this is an unusually heavy and well-made example for its size, reflecting the excellent quality for which Wade ceramics became known. The substantial weight gives the vase an impressive presence and excellent stability.
Measuring approximately 7 1/2 inches in height and 3 1/2 inches in diameter, the vase weighs an impressive 2 pounds 4 ounces. The combination of its sculptural form, rich flowing glaze, and substantial construction makes it equally appealing as a decorative object or as part of a collection of Irish ceramics or Mid Century Modern pottery.
This appears to be an uncommon Wade Irish Porcelain form. In researching the design, I have encountered only one other example, suggesting that production may have been relatively limited.
Condition is excellent. No chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing were observed. The glaze remains bright and attractive, and the vase presents beautifully.
