Large Vintage 1950s Handbag Purplish Blue Patent Leather Tudor Bag by Fiesta Canada

Dating most likely to the 1950s or possibly the very early 1960s, this large Tudor Bag handbag was made in Canada by Fiesta. Its elongated oval form is finished in glossy patent leather in an unusual deep purplish blue, a colour that changes somewhat according to the light and is difficult to capture accurately in photographs because of the highly reflective surface.

The purse has a structured metal frame with a grey pearlescent Lucite panel across the front of the frame and a raised oval metal clasp at the centre. A matching patent leather handle is attached to the frame with metal rings.

The handbag opens to reveal a cream-coloured interior fitted with several compartments. These include a zippered wall pocket, an open pocket and a small attached coin purse with its own metal frame and clasp. The interior is marked “Tudor Bag – Made in Canada by Fiesta.”

The large, flattened oval form gives the purse a distinctly mid-century profile, while the unusual blue-purple patent leather makes it somewhat different from the more commonly encountered black patent handbags of the period.
