Two elongated, pointed oval cabochons of matching glass extend horizontally from either side.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe central stone is surrounded by ten round, faceted clear paste stones, each individually mounted in a pronged setting. The paste stones have developed some darkening and discolouration with age, contrasting with the soft blue opalescence of the glass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe stones are mounted in an aged brass-coloured metal setting with decorative claw-like prongs. The reverse has an openwork construction with an old-fashioned pin stem and simple hand-soldered hook catch, consistent with late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe glass resembles antique imitation opal glass, sometimes called fire opal glass, made to reproduce the milky appearance and coloured flashes of natural opals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe brooch is unsigned.
