Its richly coloured, hand-painted ornament combines flowing spirals, stylized organic forms and strong symmetrical divisions characteristic of late Dutch Art Nouveau design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe upper section is decorated with bold black-outlined scrollwork in cream, ochre and warm rust, while the lower register features dramatic cobalt-blue, burnt-orange and light yellow motifs. Olive-green bands surround the neck, waist and base, and a pair of loop handles completes the amphora-like form. The matte surface gives the colours a particularly rich and muted appearance.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe underside is hand-marked with the décor name \u003cb\u003e“Damascus,”\u003c\/b\u003e the PZH Lazarus Gate factory emblem, \u003cb\u003e“Holland,”\u003c\/b\u003e and the painter’s monogram \u003cb\u003e“A.P.”\u003c\/b\u003e The painter represented by A.P. is documented in specialist Gouda pottery records, although their full identity remains unknown.
