This view of Cork was produced in connection with that work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe aquatint presents an expansive view of early 19th century Cork from the \u003cb\u003eMardyke Walk\u003c\/b\u003e, then a fashionable tree-lined promenade. The city appears in the distance beyond open fields, with cattle grazing in the foreground and figures strolling along the shaded walk. The trees framing the scene and the tonal treatment of the landscape give the print considerable depth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe lower margin is titled in script \u003cb\u003e“Cork, from the Mardyke Walk”\u003c\/b\u003e, with \u003cb\u003e“Drawn by J. Carr Esq.”\u003c\/b\u003e at lower left and the original publication information below the title:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e“Published June 4th 1806 by R. Phillips, Bridge Street, Blackfriars.”\u003c\/b\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe print is a \u003cb\u003emonochrome aquatint\u003c\/b\u003e, with the characteristic finely textured tonal areas of the aquatint process creating the greys and blacks of the landscape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is housed in an older black moulded wood frame with narrow gilt inner detailing. The reverse retains a label from \u003cb\u003eW. Scott \u0026amp; Sons, 99 Notre Dame St. West, Montreal\u003c\/b\u003e, apparently dated \u003cb\u003e1921\u003c\/b\u003e, suggesting that the print has been in its present framing for approximately a century. There is light age-related yellowing to the margins, together with some yellow staining or discolouration at the upper centre and on the left side of the image in the area surrounding the cattle.
