Vintage Vogue Magazine May 1993 Princess Diana Cover Helmut Newton Steven Meisel

This is the May 1993 issue of American Vogue, featuring Diana, Princess of Wales on the cover. The cover photograph, taken during Diana’s 1992 visit to Egypt, is credited to photographer Tim Graham.

The principal feature, “Princess Diana: Leading Royalty into Reality” by Georgina Howell, looks at Diana at a particularly interesting point in her life, following her in Britain and abroad and examining her changing public and charitable role.

The issue is also an excellent record of early 1990s fashion, supermodels and fashion photography, with work by some of the era’s most important photographers and stylists.

Highlights include “White Mischief,” photographed by Helmut Newton and styled by Grace Coddington, featuring Rachel Williams, Kristen McMenamy and Eva Herzigová; “Suits Without the Starch,” photographed by Steven Meisel, featuring Linda Evangelista; and “Barkin Back,” also photographed by Steven Meisel, featuring actress Ellen Barkin.

The fashion editorials capture the streamlined silhouettes, slip dresses, minimalist tailoring and relaxed glamour that characterized the early 1990s. Period advertising includes Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Giorgio Beverly Hills, CoverGirl and many other fashion and beauty companies.

Other editorial subjects include “The Death of Dieting: Why Weight-Loss Programs Can’t Work” and “Welcome to Hell,” a report from Bosnia.

An especially appealing issue for collectors of Princess Diana memorabilia, vintage Vogue, 1990s fashion, supermodels and fashion photography.

Condition: Very good vintage condition. The Giorgio Beverly Hills “Wings” perfume advertising page is detached, but is present and included with the magazine. Otherwise the magazine is very well preserved. Please refer to the photographs for examples of the contents and condition.
