Vintage NASA Space Program Ephemera Collection 1961–1963 Mercury Apollo Gemini

A collection of original NASA printed material dating from the early 1960s through 1963, assembled by Warren Felson of Montreal West, Quebec, during the formative years of the American manned space program.

The collection includes an original June 28, 1963 letter on NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center letterhead, addressed to Mr. Felson. The letter thanks him for his correspondence and states that a selection of rocket information was enclosed, providing provenance for at least part of this collection.

The material covers Project Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Saturn launch vehicles, Mercury-Redstone and early concepts for manned lunar exploration. Much of it dates from the period when Project Mercury was still active or had only recently concluded, several years before the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

The collection includes:

  • 6 printed pamphlets and brochures, including Space Exploration 1962, Hugh L. Dryden's The National Significance of the Augmented Program of Space Exploration, Spacemobile – Space Science Lecture-Demonstration, and illustrated NASA space-program material.
  • 4 NASA News Releases, three of them multi-page, including a 24 page release with a chronology of the Apollo program from 1957 until June 1962, the other three covering subjects including manned flight systems and solid-propellant escape rockets.
  • 4 NASA Fact Sheets, including material issued by the Manned Spacecraft Center and George C. Marshall Space Flight Center.
  • 3-page Mercury-Redstone Vehicle information sheet.
  • Printed sheet relating to the Mercury and Gemini programs.
  • Project Mercury Quiz sheet with photographs of Mercury astronauts and launch vehicles.
  • Illustrated “Man on the Moon” sheet, reprinted by NASA from the March 4, 1962 New York Times Magazine, showing contemporary concepts for an Apollo lunar mission.
  • Saturn Project Fact Sheet, dated January 15, 1962, issued by the Public Information Office at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center.
  • Additional early NASA and aerospace printed material.

Several pieces are particularly interesting for their illustrations of early proposed spacecraft, rockets and lunar missions, showing how NASA envisioned manned lunar exploration years before the first Moon landing.

These are original period publications and correspondence, not later reproductions.

Condition: Overall good vintage condition. The material shows varying degrees of age and handling, including fold lines, light edge and corner wear, occasional creasing and minor toning. Several of the larger sheets were originally issued folded. Please refer to the photographs for the condition of individual pieces.
