Vintage Mint Green Metal Bread Box – Riveted Slant Front Kitchen Storage Bin

This is a vintage metal bread box, believed to date to the 1950s, although I can’t be 100% certain. It is finished in pale mint or seafoam green and has a slanted front with a large hinged door. An oval metal label holder on the front contains an insert printed “BREAD BOX.”

The dating is based on its construction and design. The riveted sheet-metal body, folded metal edges, oval metal label holder with printed insert, side handles, colour and slant-front form are all consistent with metal kitchen storage boxes produced during the mid-century period. Similar slant-front metal bread boxes are attributed to the 1950s, possibly early 60s. 

The box has a rectangular top and sides that angle outward toward the bottom, giving it considerably more depth at the base. Rows of exposed metal rivets run along the upper and lower edges and around the back panel. A painted metal carrying handle is attached to each side.

The front door is hinged along its lower edge and fitted with a round matching coloured plastic knob. The interior is unpainted metal. The front lid closes with some gap - you could possibly provide a tighter closure by adding velcro strips.

The bread box is in very good condition for an item of its type with minor wear from age and use. There are scattered scratches and small areas of paint loss as well as a dent at the left hand front corner (see close-up photo). Please examine the photographs closely for condition.
