Vintage Gucci Suitcase Black Canvas Tan Leather Travel Bag Made in Italy Large

This is a vintage Gucci suitcase / travel bag, made in Italy and dating to approximately 1980, in black canvas with tan brown leather trim and brass-tone hardware.

The suitcase has a classic rectangular form with rounded corners, reinforced leather corner panels and piping, double rolled leather handles, and distinctive white contrast stitching throughout. A wide leather strap runs vertically around the centre of the case and fastens at the front with a substantial Gucci-marked brass-tone buckle and locking mechanism (no key present).

The case opens with double zippers fitted with Gucci-marked zipper pulls. The original small Gucci padlock is still attached, although the key is no longer present.

The interior is fully lined in beige patterned fabric and retains its original fitted appointments. One half has a large zippered compartment, while the other incorporates retaining straps for securing clothing during travel. An interior leather tab carries the metal GUCCI / MADE IN ITALY plaque. The reverse of the leather identification tab is impressed with the number:

The suitcase is somewhat flexible rather than completely rigid. When empty, the canvas sides and upper portion naturally extend beyond the more structured leather-edged dimensions, and the centre can expand further when packed.

Condition: Very good condition and quite clean inside and out. There are some light whitish marks to the exterior canvas, really negligible, and one tiny gummy mark on the interior lining on the pocket side, as well as a small moisture patch to the lining at one corner on the side without a pocket. Overall, the suitcase presents very well and appears to have seen relatively little use. The exterior leather is very well preserved with no significant wear, although there are a couple of very minor dark marks. There is some scuffing and scratching to the leather on the underside, much of which may improve with appropriate leather care. The black canvas has a very small hole, approximately 1/16" in diameter, at the lower right front near the leather corner (see close-up photograph). The original Gucci padlock is present, but there is no key. Please examine the photographs carefully for details.

Measurements: Approximately 26" wide × 16" high measured across the structured edge cording; approximately 30" wide × 19 1/2" high at the fullest points when the flexible sides are lightly extended; 8" deep at the bottom. The centre can expand somewhat when filled.

A substantial vintage Gucci travel piece, particularly appealing for its clean condition, contrasting black canvas and tan leather construction, original Gucci hardware, lock and well-preserved fitted interior.
