Vintage 1928 Royal Crown Derby Traditional Imari Cup and Saucer Pattern 2451
A beautiful vintage Royal Crown Derby cup and saucer in the richly decorated Traditional Imari pattern, dating to 1928 (almost antique).
The set features Royal Crown Derby’s celebrated Imari palette of deep cobalt blue, iron red, white and lavish hand-applied gold. The intricate decoration incorporates stylized flowers, scrolling motifs, geometric panels and abundant gilding, creating the opulent appearance for which Derby Imari porcelain is so admired.
Both pieces bear the Royal Crown Derby backstamp together with the pattern number 2451 and a date cipher corresponding to 1928. The cup has a fluted rim and an elegant gilded handle, while the saucer is densely decorated across its surface with coordinating floral and geometric designs.
This cup and saucer has an interesting history. It was discovered carefully stored in an old box and protected with straw—an old-fashioned packing material suggesting that it may have been packed away many decades ago, perhaps not long after it was originally purchased. Its remarkable condition certainly supports the impression that it saw little, if any, use.
Condition
In excellent antique condition and appears possibly unused. There are no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. The richly applied gold decoration retains its original brilliance, with no significant wear evident. The colours remain vivid and the glaze is beautifully glossy.
