1950s Capitol Records 45 RPM Extended Play Albums Catalogue | Canadian EP Stock List | Jazz, Sinatra & Rock 'n' Roll
This original 1950s Capitol Records "Popular Extended Play Albums" catalogue is a piece of Canadian record industry ephemera from the golden age of the 45 rpm record. Issued by Capitol Records Distributors of Canada, Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, the fold-out stock list was intended for dealers and consumers to promote the rapidly expanding catalogue of Extended Play (EP) releases.
Covering a cross-section of Capitol's mid-century catalogue, the brochure lists hundreds of EP releases organized by musical genre, including jazz, popular vocalists, rhythm and blues, country and western, Broadway, film music, Dixieland, dance orchestras and children's recordings. Featured artists include Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Gerry Mulligan, Shorty Rogers, Jimmy Giuffre, Gordon MacRae, Tennessee Ernie, Ray Anthony and many others who helped define American popular music during the 1950s.
Printed in Canada, this catalogue reflects Capitol's marketing of the then-new 45 rpm Extended Play format, promoted on the cover as providing "Longer in Music – Lower in Cost!" Today it serves as an excellent reference for collectors of Capitol Records and early EP releases.
