1930s Art Deco Martini Pitcher with Jockey Steeplechase Scene

A striking 1930s Art Deco glass martini or cocktail pitcher, hand painted with a jockey and racehorse posed so as to imply a steeplechase race.

The decoration depicts a jockey riding a black racehorse that appears to be jumping, with the jockey dressed in blue, green and white and the horse detailed with ochre tack and green leg wraps. Concentric red and blue rings encircle the lower portion of the pitcher, giving the piece a particularly graphic Art Deco appearance.

The pitcher has a tall, slightly flared body with a substantial applied glass handle, pouring spout with a small central notch, and a broad, heavy circular foot.

There is no visible maker's mark. The style and construction are consistent with 1930s American cocktail glassware.
