Vintage 1930s Evening Dress Black Silk Chiffon w Chain Belt

Elegant and ethereal, this original 1930s evening dress is crafted from fine black silk chiffon. The floor-length silhouette is sheer and flowing, featuring gathered pleats at the neckline and a dramatic open back with a tie closure at the nape. The cape-like sleeves are cut wide, falling in drapes in a 3/4 length.  This 1930s evening dress is finished with a wide black chiffon sash belt that includes a smocked front panel and is embellished with a decorative silver-tone rhinestone studded chain motif.  A matching rhinestone studded chain crosses the neckline.  Additional smocking appears at the shoulders, lending delicate structure and a subtle contrast in texture.  The dress does up at the side with snaps and a hook and eye.

This 1930s evening dress is entirely unlined and transparent, typical of 1930s bias-cut evening styles that were often worn over slips.
