Antique Sterling Silver Button Hook Bigelow Kennard Boston

This is an antique sterling silver button hook that is stamped “Bigelow Kennard & Co. Sterling 2046X”.  Bigelow Kennard & Co. was founded in 1830  as Bigelow & Co, but changed its name to Bigelow Kennard & Co a little later.  It was incorporated in 1912 and ceased operations in 1922.  This antique sterling silver button hook probably dates to the 1890s.  It is part of the collection of button hooks that was amassed by a long time collector.  This size of button hook most likely would have been used as an aid in putting on spats or shoes.  It measures 8 3/4” in length and is quite heavy for its size, weighing 76 grams (2.68 oz) and is in excellent condition.
