Vintage 1960s Designer Castillo Paris Hand Painted Black Velvet Couture Tie

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a wonderful vintage black velvet tie dating to the 1960s, produced by the French fashion house of Castillo.  Antonio Canovas del Castillo de Rey (1908-1984), along with Balmain, Balenciaga and Dior, was considered one of the up and coming designers in post-war Paris.  He designed for Paquin, Piguet and Dior, and, in 1950, became the principle designer for the fashion house of Lanvin.  Castillo remained at Lanvin until 1963 at which time he opened his own house. This tie, I believe, dates to the mid to late 1960s.  It is made of black acetate velvet with small flowers hand painted onto the velvet in colours of purple, pink and white.  The label reads “Castillo Cravate Couture Paris”.  The tie measures 58” in length and 4 1/2” in width at its widest.  It is in excellent condition with no marks, wear or tear.

This is a very interesting tie - not often seen, this is a great addition to a tie collection, or to a vintage designer collection!
