This is a vintage navy blue overcoat made by Ralph Lauren under the “Polo” label.  The coat is made of a fine quality fabric.  There is no content label but the neck loop reads “Made in U.S.A. From Imported Fabric” - it feels like cashmere, but I assume that it is a high content cashmere blend, hard to say without a content label, but it is very soft to the touch, really smacks of qualiity. Ralph Lauren was not manufactured in the US for decades until very recently - it began manufacturing in Hong Kong during the mid-1980s and then started outsourcing to multiple countries, especially to China after the turn of the century.  Another clue as to age of this coat is the ACTWU union label.  The Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union merged with the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union in 1995 to form the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE).  ACTWU was formed in 1976, so the coat has to date to between 1976 and 1995 - I would estimate late 1980s, although it might have been made slightly earlier than that.  The coat is beautifully tailored - padded shoulders, peaked lapels, large flapped side patch pockets, six button double breasted closure, turned cuffs, a button down back belt and a single 26” kick vent at the back.  It is fully lined in a navy blue satin fabric.

Manfacturer’s label:  Polo by Ralph Lauren.  This label appears to have been used during the 80s into the 90s

Sizing: Size 44 L (long) is indicated, but please note the following measurements for fit, taking the cut of the coat and thickness of the fabric into account:

Shoulders:  21” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves: 26” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam:  18 1/2”

Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms (25” pit to pit)

Waist:  45” around

Hips:  50” around

Length:  51”

Condition:  This coat is in great condition with no wear, tear or staining - it looks to have seen very little use and was well cared for over the last 30 or so years.

This is American made Ralph Lauren, produced at a time when Polo was “the” American brand, synonymous with high quality menswear - nice acquisition for the Polo aficianado!
