This is a beautifully tailored vintage early 1950s era suit.  The suit is made in a brown and grayish blue stripe colored wool.  The shoulders of the jacket are heavily padded and the lapels are notched.  The jacket is tailored to cinch at the waist.  It has a three button closure and three buttons at the end of the sleeve.  There is a flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left breast.  The jacket is fully lined in brown satin fabric.  It has two interior pockets.  The pants are pleated and have a button-up fly and waist cinching tabs at either side.  The suit is hand tailored - excellent quality.

Age: early 1950s

Label: Matabdin & Sons Pakistani Tailors 93, Avenue El-Horreya Alexandrie (Egypt).  This suit belonged to a former high jump champion of Egypt during the 1930s.  It is one of a lot of 11 suits from the 40s and early 50s that he brought with him to Canada, after immigrating from Egypt.

Color: Brown and grey blue stripe

Material: Wool.  It is a quite heavyweight fabric, definitely a fall/winter suit.  They don’t make fabric of this quality any longer and haven’t for some time.    Falls beautifully due to weight and quality.

Sizing: No size is indicated, as it was custom tailored, but this should fit a medium size, probably a size 38/40 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the wool into consideration) and note the width across the upper back/shoulders:

Jacket:

Shoulders: 18” across shoulder seam-to-seam

Upper back:  16” across sleeve seams

Sleeves: 26” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18” long

Chest: 43” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 38” around

Overall length: 32", measured flat

Pants:

Waist: 31”, uncinched by a belt and with the tabs fully let out

Leg Inseam: 31” long

Overall length: 44"

Condition:

This suit is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors. It looks like this suit saw little, if any, use and was very well kept over the years.

This is a wonderful early 50s era suit - nice quality with great fit and style.....
