Vintage 1960s Stetson Sovereign Fedora Hat Brown Fur Felt Mens Size 7
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a wonderful Stetson dark brown fedora hat made in the “Sovereign” quality. The Sovereign line was a better quality line, equivalent to a 3X Beaver, and more expensive that the Royal and Royal Deluxe. The inventory ticket on the interior sweatband has a price of $65 on it. The lining is stamped “Stetson Sovereign” and the sweatband is silver stamped “John B Stetson The Sovereign Stetson” and with the retailer’s name “Henri Henri Coin Ste Catherine Est et Hotel de Ville Montreal”. Henri Henri is a venerable Montreal men’s hat shop still in business today. The foil label on the sweatband states that it is a size “7” or 56 cm, which is a size medium. It measures 21 3/4” around the sweatband and 7 5/8” by 6 1/2” across the opening. The edge of the brim is turned. The hat is in a very attractive dark chocolate brown that looks quite different whether indoors or in the sunlight. The grosgrain ribbon is a purply brown colour, again different in appearance depending on lighting. It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear or soiling, but this is a pre-owned hat, so would benefit from a professional cleaning, although very presentable as is. Difficult to date precisely, but I would think early 1960s era because of the style, quality and foil size tag - note that the foil label with the metric measurement means that this was marketed to Canada and the retail price would have been in Canadian dollars. In any case, this is a very nice quality hat in an attractive brown colour - nice style, great hat!
