Vintage 50s Italian Skirt and Top Etrusca Del Soldato Bardi

$395.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a 50s Italian skirt and top made and sold at the Florence fashion boutique Etrusca del Soldato Bardi.  This 50s Italian skirt and top set is decorated with gimp-like braid appliqué detailed with cellophane-like strips (view close-up photos).  The skirt is beautifully quilted throughout in an elliptical diamond pattern.  The top is made of a wool knit, has a bateau or boat neckline, 3/4 length sleeves and is made to accentuate the body silhouette.  The skirt, in typical 50s style, is circle cut, so that it flares out to the hemline.  It is fully lined in taffeta - I am unsure of the exterior fabric, but it is of very good quality.  The skirt was posed with a crinoline, but none is supplied - in order to get the same flare, it would be necessary to use a crinoline, although the skirt is very wearable without one.

Label: E. del Soldato Bardi 35-37 Via Tornabuoni - Firenze.  Etrusca del Soldato Bardi no longer exists, but they made their own clothing and laces.  It appears to have been a high end store, specializing in ladies’ fashion.  The Tornabuoni address now houses Alexander McQueen, Tiffany, Burberry, Balenciaga, Kenzo and Prada.

Sizing: There is no size label, however, this 50s Italian skirt and top should fit a small size - note the small waist.  Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut and material of the garments into consideration):

Top:

Sleeve Inseam: 15” long

Chest: 37” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 30”, around, unstretched

Bottom:  32”

Overall length: 22"

Skirt:

Waist:  24” - there is some extra fabric to the interior that could be let out - you could probably add 2”

Hips:  48, meant to fall loosely

Length:  32 1/2”

Condition: This 50s Italian skirt and top set is in very good condition with the exception of one pinhead sized hole towards the bottom front (see last close-up photo) and some light whiteish staining to the armpits of the top.  I have not tried to launder this due to the cellophane decoration, but the stains might come out with a spot treatment.  Otherwise, there is no other pronounced wear, tear, stains or odour to this 50s Italian skirt and top.

This is a fabulous quality 50s Italian skirt and top set from the golden era of Italian fashion - striking in red!
