Antique Sterling Silver Button Hook Adie Lovekin Birmingham

$95.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is an antique sterling silver button hook that is hallmarked with the anchor, denoting the Birmingham assay office, the initials A & L.LD., which stand for Adie & Lovekin, and the Queen’s head.  I can’t make out the last hallmark, which might be a date letter or the lion.  The Queen’s head, however, means that the piece pre-dates 1890 and the style of the Adie & Lovekin initials are known to have been used between 1889 and 1890.  This antique sterling silver button hook is part of the collection of button hooks that was amassed by a long time collector.  It is engraved with the initials “TOM”, either a monogram, or this belonged to someone by the name of Tom - it does have a rather masculine look to it.  It measures 9 1/2” in length - the swirled end is made of sterling silver and has a length of 3 3/4” while the rest is steel.  It weighs 52 grams (1.83 oz).  This antique sterling silver button hook is in very good condition - could use more of a polish than I was able to effect.

This is an attractive antique sterling silver button hook - wonderful addition to a collection!
