This is an antique glove button hook that is marked simply with “Sterling”, so most likely of American origin.  It has an ornate scroll edged handle on both sides and the handle has a thickness of 1/4”.  This antique glove button hook is part of the collection of button hooks that was amassed by a long time collector. It measures 3” in length - the sterling silver handle has a length of 1 1/2” while the rest is steel.  It weighs 5 grams.  These smaller button hooks were used for gloves, dress buttons, sleeves or shirt collars and are generally called glove hooks.  It is in very good condition.
